This week, Communique finally crossed 1,000 subscribers on Substack and, in just two days, it added 8,000 more on LinkedIn. In nearly two years of publishing this newsletter, I’d been “satisfied” with growing the list slowly. But something changed this week.
On Tuesday, I created a version of the newsletter on LinkedIn to increase its visibility. In 10 minutes, it got nearly 800 subscribers. By Wednesday evening, the list had grown to over 8,000.
I learned just how impactful LinkedIn could be for distribution, if done right. A part of me feels like I finally unlocked a new secret, but it’s always been there. I just failed to see it.
I don’t want this to be the case for other people. So, I’m reaching out to you with this first edition of our bi-weekly discussion thread. What content distribution tips and tricks have you found very effective? What did you experiment with that worked like magic? And what would you advise our community members to look out for?
I've found that articles can really go viral on Hacker News, but the conversion rates aren't great. Twitter has worked the best for me, followed by specific Subreddits that are relevant to your niche. I've also had success with industry podcasts as well as interviews or cross-postings with other Substacks.
This is great. Thank you, Michael. I tried using Reddit once and the UX turned me off. Maybe I’ll try again. It’s come up a lot in conversations around distribution.
Congratulations on your success with LinkedIn!

Congratulations on the success of the LinkedIn Viral Content Distribution. I am so happy about that. LinkedIn has a great algorithm.
Articles can go viral using LinkedIn and Twitter. Thanks!
